My fiancé is a plumber and drives a work van. When we moved in, we were assured that this was a safe, gated apartment community and that there would be no issues with him parking his van in the parking lot. That was one of the main reasons we chose this place over other options.
We moved in on September 13, 2025, and were lucky for almost a year. However, on July 9, 2026, his van was broken into, and over $15,000
WORTH OF PLUMBING EQUIPMENT was stolen. After calling the police, we found out there was nothing they could do because THERE ARE NO SECURITY CAMERAS! And they have zero intention of installing them in the future!
We don't blame the apartment complex for the break-in itself, but the complete lack of surveillance is unbelievable. According to management, they have a "courtesy patrol" that monitors the property. We've lived here for 10 months, and the only time we've ever actually seen them was the night AFTER the break-in. I'm not saying that's the only time they've ever driven through, but for us to live here almost a full year and only witness active patrol once is ridiculous.
We emailed management requesting to be released from our lease early because we no longer feel safe living here. OUR REQUEST WAS DEINED! If my fiancé replaces all of his stolen tools, there's a good chance his van could be broken into again before our lease ends in December.
I completely understand that, under normal circumstances, breaking a lease early isn't an option. However, this isn't a normal circumstance. This is a serious safety concern and a devastating financial loss for us. The best Prose Prominence could offer after being notified was, "I'm sorry." Well, I'm sorry too, but that doesn't replace $15,000 worth of stolen equipment or ease our concerns about it happening again.
And the broken glass from the smashed van window? It’s still sitting in the parking lot more than 36 hours after the break-in. And that’s even after we personally notified the community manager, Michael, TWICE! So if you have children, make sure you keep a close eye on them! Hopefully they don't cut their hands on broken glass and end up in the ER!
And if the so-called "courtesy patrol" actually did the job management claims they do, maybe they could take care of the people who openly smoke pot in the parking lot at all hours of the day and night. I can probably count on one hand the number of days I HAVEN’T had to walk through a cloud of smoke just to get to or from my car. I don't care
