My lease requires me to give 90 days notice if I intend to vacate. At the 90 day mark I asked my property manager what my rate was and they gave me a rate i could afford and agreed to it. Problem is they never delivered it either electronically or physically. I emailed them and tried to call them multiple times but no answer after a while my emails won't go through. 3 days later apparently a new management company took over the property. I try calling and emailing this new management company... multiple times over the course of 2 months. Due to the holidays and my work schedule, making it to their office during business hours is almost impossible for me. Finally I make it in at the last second Friday and the assistant property manager pretends none of my emails exist. Then when I try to explain the situation he tries blaming me for not contacting them and tells me the rate has increased by $200. I tell him I can't renew at that rate and he says I'll have to pay an additional $500 on top of the new rate for 3 months if I decide to move out and give notice. Even though the other offer is in their records and even though I showed them the emails accepting those lease terms, he won't budge. So I basically feel like I'm being forced into this new lease with a rate i never would have agreed. not sure if this is legal but it certainly isn't ethical.
